I think I need another go round on these. Trying to copy the subject matter too much. Maybe I need to go for a more “cartoony” feel to get the shapes as simple as possible. I still like some of these though. I’m starting to see how these shape decisions really make a difference with the emotions of the image.

that's a great solution to the hippo

Really interesting exercise! I felt uncertain exploring all the different options but found it fun once I got going. Pinterest was great for grabbing images. Definitely tonnes to learn from these masters.

Jumped into Procreate for the tracing task. Felt weirdly limiting following the instructions and the preset lines. Tired not to let that bother me and focus on the line weight stuff. Probably chose the wrong brush in hindsight but they both came out okay I suppose. Particular like the sticker affect on the outline version.

Here's my first attempt at the boots. I think I captured the rhythms pretty well, but my proportions were a bit off and it crowded the middle of the drawing. I found the detail around the laces to be difficult.

I wasn’t brave enough to try the boots!

Tried not to spend too long and these, keeping them fairly loose and gestural. Some of my lines are still too fussy and indecisive. Enjoyed penguin the most.

Here’s my snail assignment. Not yet watched critique so just attempting to implement the CSI lesson. I might do an intermediate study after watching the critique video.

You can really tell where your construction lines helped you describe the form turning in space with just the use of line! Great work on the snail! I think you found some great ways to push line from thick to thin, using overlap to describe form and just overall great sense of proportion and weight. I think my only thing that I would do if this were my drawing would be to put a little bit of work into the wood that the snail is crawling on to give it a better sense of reality around it! Great work!

That’s really good. Your lines look really confident.
