In your digital paintings you managed to bring the original gouache effect ,,I can never find the tools or brushes to bring that originality and simplicity in my digital work ,,is that my lack of skill or something else I can not figure out
Do you ever get nervous when painting in public/plein air? How do you get over being nervous to paint in front of strangers?
When you're done with a painting session, how do you clean the color soaked sponge palette so that its ready again for the next use? How do you prevent the sponge from getting moldy?
Hi Tiffanie, do you have any tips on getting the right consistency when working with gouache? Watching you paint, it’s blowing my mind how you are making some of those thicker, drier strokes. I find that like most beginners, I tend to use too much water with gouache. But when I try to attempt dry brushing, it seems like the paint is always “stuck” to the brush and I can’t get it on the canvas. Do you have any tips to combat this, especially outdoors? Thanks!
Do you prefer to paint in silence or do you ever listen to music or a podcast at the same time?
Hi Tiffanie.. those colors are so fresh. I don't know much about Gouache. You thin with water? is there any other mediums to thin the paint with and make them not dry out? make them easier to make blend or fade better?
I was referring to a technique where a solid patch of gouache is applied and then removed in sections with a cotton bud, giving a cloudy sort of look
Thank you so much for all the thoughtful tips! Have you always been specifically interested in landscapes? If not, how did you decide to focus more on landscape paintings?
I notice the way you are holding the round brush as if you are writing chinese calligraphy. Is this normal holding style or your own style? Thanks.
What i see is the abstraction you put in by putting some vertical elements (strokes of colours) where they dont really belong in way that is artistically and aesthetically appealing (and what I consider to be a sinature of Schmid landscapes).
I'm a story artist sometimes client ask me to give them color boards. i usually sketch and paint it in grayscale and convert it to color. is there any way to skip that.
Do you have advice for changing careers and pursuing animation? How do you balance having a full time consuming job (I'm in advertising for graphic design) with building skills and a portfolio?
Tiffanie - your work is super inspiring. do you have any suggestions for someone who has been a professional graphic designer but knows some illustration how to make that transition to art/illustration full time? I love to draw and have always meshed the fundamentals of design and art but it feels like as I get older (I'm 31) I need to choose and commit. anything helps thanks so much love your work!
Really interesting to hear of the process on Loving Vincent, animation nerd question - did you work with "keys" or generally work "straight ahead"? Thank-you
