LESSON NOTES

Ready to take your portrait sculpting to the next level? In this lesson, Andrew Joseph Keith sculpts a portrait solely from imagination, emphasizing the importance of understanding skull anatomy and nuances that bring lifelike realism.

Andrew takes you through the steps of establishing the side profile, laying in the underlying skull structure, and then building up the anatomy and facial features. This exercise helps develop your knowledge of facial anatomy and ability to invent believable characters.

Hey this is coming along nicely I like to be able to see the process of this sculpture in the documentation. The finished sculpture from the side view looks really good but from the front it looks like the eyes and mouth are too wide. It could also probably use some softening of the secondary forms and work on the texturing but honestly it's a great study and I hope you keep going and keep doing more!

hey great job! super fun sculpture from imagination. If I had to give a critique I think the eyes, nose and mouth might be a bit large compared to the size of the head. Keep up the great work! Also what type of clay is this?
