Twisting the bean

@nahgul
Having a hard time finding the twist in poses (especially the subtle ones), any general advice/tricks for finding it? Also here is one of my attempts at drawing a twisted bean + the reference which has a pretty extreme twist. would really appreciate any feedback.

I always follow the lines. The glutes rolling into the lower mid back region in this case. Also realizing that the twists tend to shrink the size of the form is something I try to keep in mind.

Hey nahgul, Christopher is right on with his explanation. I also look for overlapping shapes to help sell the idea of the twist. I look for ways to show lines that indicate this idea, I will even exaggerate them to make it clear. I did a sketch to show you what I mean, hope it helps :)

Hi Nahgul! The trick that I have here is to look at the landmarks, bony protrusions, like the hip bones or the clavicle. I did a quick drawing of a very specific bony protrusion of the hip and some lines indicating the direction of the hips and the direction of the shoulders. This could help tremendously with determining how extreme the twist is. Also on this image I did a quick line indicating where the shadow starts on the torso this is a wonderful indicator of a corner that you can use for the bean as well. After doing all of that I traced the Bean that you did to see if there was much difference and honestly I think your bean is accurate. Maybe you’re questioning the accuracy of your bean because it doesn’t have A clear indication of shoulders or hips? anyway, I hope that helps. Thanks for sharing and keep moving forward!
