Study from Frank Frazetta
3yr
Vincent Duncombe
Just completed a study of one of Frank Frazetta's works. The amount of energy and emotion that he is able to get in his compositions are inspiring.
Has anyone else studied his work and has thoughts on what makes his art so famous?
Honestly, I'm always a bit surprised that the same names keep popping up. Frazetta is probably very famous because he was marketed quite well while he was active. I'm sure there were hundreds if not thousands of artists just as good as he, but they are now all forgotten for us, because they didn't sell themselves so well back then. However, he displays great compositional, gestural skill and his form creating lines are to die for. His paintings display a clear sense of value, edge control, light. If I was copying Frazetta, I'd concentrate on his ink or graphite work and attempt to understand why and how he places his form building lines.
Great drawing by the way! :-)

Nice drawingI did a composition study of this same Frazetta drawing a few months ago, and noticed how he repeated similar shapes throughout the drawing. I think it's refered to as rhythm, since the repetition of shapes create a rhythm through the piece. I had never thought that far about shape design in my drawings so it was an eye-opening experience.
