This is a close up of a larger painting, here you can see the individual "Tiles" of color I used. This is the technique I prefer in oil painting, the opposite would be glazing. I like this way of painting because I like to the color and shape of each stoke, it allows for a more more color and more variation to the subject. Everything isn't blended away.
