I don't understand the perspective of the arm on this photo

The arm closest to the camera. To me it looks like the upper arm is coming towards us but the lower arm is going away from us. But then it also looks like the arm isn't flexed. I'm confused. Is it because the arm is pronated?
The arm looks to be fairly straight.
It is a bit of a tough angle to read, so I understand your confusion.
If you look at the palm, it's clear the hand is rotating away to grip the sword.
We don't see wrinkles on the elbow, nor do we see lighter color of a bent elbow.
This lets us know that the arm is straight and in a relaxed position.
