First attempt at simplifying object

Hello everyone I’m new here and to drawing in general. If you could give me any advice it would be much appreciated.
Great start! You're off to an amazing beginning for your art journey. I can already see that you're noticing the placement of shadows and different values, which is fantastic! It shows you're thinking about how light interacts with the object.
Here’s what I think can help you level up: train your eye to measure proportions and practice this skill regularly. While shadows and highlights are crucial, an object’s shape is what makes it recognizable.
I’ve included a picture to roughly compare the dimensions of the photographed lemon with your drawing. It looks like the lemon in your drawing is slightly more elongated in width. When drawing, try pausing to carefully observe the dimensions of the object. A helpful approach is to pick one edge of the object (for example, the height or width), give it a "measurement," and then use that measurement to compare everything else in the drawing.
To show what I mean, I’ve also included a quick process of how I would tackle drawing this lemon. It’s not perfect, but I hope it gives you a clearer idea of the steps to take.
Keep up the great work, and good luck on your drawing journey! You're making amazing progress! Great start to your art journey.
Okay awesome! I’ll try this out later tonight. Thank you for the tips and encouragement.

Hello and welcome! The shape you chose for the dark values is very nice. The value on top of the shadow shape should be lighter than the shadow value since it’s closer to the light source. Using that lighter value also adds the 5th value to this drawing, whereas yours originally have 4 values. Overall really nice job, that little tweak will elevate your drawing a bunch!
