Assignment download - Inking JRJR pencils

Hi everyone. I have had a go at inking digitally over a John Romita JR page, from the Assignment download folder. I have tried to capture the energy from his pencils. Not sure I have, so any feedback would be helpful. Cheers :)

Hey Aaron, The thing about inking is that you have to maintain the artist's style and still make sure you describe the forms. If you look carefully you will see that JRJR is using his render lines to describe the form. For example: the muscle on his right leg is popping up, which he described with his rendering. You made it look like a hole in his leg by rendering against the form. But, to reiterate, you must make sure to keep the pencilers style in your inks- super important. I did a quick ink over the drawing to show you what I mean, I hope it helps :)

One piece of advice an inker gave me at a convention was not just to ink over pencils, but ink over inks. The rationale is that you will learn a lot by trying to replicate the marks an inker makes, from dry-brush to splatter, tapered lines etc. You'll expand your toolset by inking over inks. It took years before I got around to following the advice myself, but it was super-helpful once I did.

Hi Steve. This does help, a lot. I didn't even notice those render forms in the pencils. I can see them now. Thanks again for the detailed feedback :)
