First one is pear 3 before watching the demo, second pear is the first pear after watching the demo. I think I went a bit to hard on making the better one darker, and the top came out to tall, but I think there's an insane jump between them since I haven't done this kinda thing in over 10 years.

The texture in your second attempt is really pleasing to look at. The first one looks scritchy which makes the whole lit side very flat where the second one has shape. I still wouldn't knock that first version, though. It's got some good values. And you clearly picked up on the shading instruction for the second version.
