The pear was mainly done with an HB, trying to get darker values in it didn't work out so I left it as is. Watched the demo and then took a different subject to try it out, halfway through the lighter values I noticed that the direction of shading also adds to the 3D effect, making it currently look a tad more flat, but that's still better than the pear.
