I wasn't successful in folding the paper, so I did a one inch grid.. (I am going to go back and try the paper folding again.. it looked really interesting to do.) I wonder if I should go ahead and use the fixative on this drawing now? Thank you @Morgan Weistling For a grid drawing (which I've never done before...) It took me forever to do this and I am not even sure if I have it accurate enough. This was a big eye opener for me.

yes, this good. move on

@Morgan Weistling I'm having a terrible time getting my print out to match my canvas going from corner to corner like you are demonstrating. The only way I can make this work is to size it to 8 x 6 which of course is not good to grid. I've printed several prints of the photo using different margins etc. None of them match corner to corner on the canvas. Not even close enough to use. I would have through 10 x 8 would have worked, seems 8 x 6 worked, but it doesn't either. What size is the print out you are using? I've almost run out of ink printing this and want to get it right the next time. I am using a 16 x 12 canvas, and a yard stick... thanks so much for any advise you can give to help me get this gridded.
Morgan Weistling
just draw a line where the canvas should be to match the photo and grid from there.either from the top or bottom. doesn't matter.

@Morgan Weistling I am loving the process and find it very interesting how my brain is affected by doing that type of drawing. It feels very unnatural to me and took a lot of effort and concentration to do the head. I kept getting which side of the eye, for instance that I was working mixed up. I really struggled and had to give it all my attention to really look and see, and observe. Near the end it was coming more naturally. I think this was a great exercise to do. I'm am going to try some more periodically. I drew it by observation initially and then used a measuring calliper (not sure what it's actually called) to make sure and correct where needed. For the vase, after I drew it (I used horizontal lines to mark spots I thought were important for comparison) and outlined it, i saw places I was off, so I tried to fix it by eye after I'd already outlined it with marker, so that explains the thicker pencil lines! I'm watching ahead in your videos then going back to do assignments. I'm excited to start the paint mixing exercises next! Thank you so much for doing this course! You're an excellent instructor!

Thanks Lynda! You did very well with this. Can't wait to see you start the first head painting.

Hi @Morgan Weistling , I can't properly tell you in words how much I'm enjoying your course!!! You are not only an incredible artist.. you really know how to teach in a way I can understand! I'm very new to oil (I'm a pastel artist) and I know I made the right decision learning from you. I love your humour too! My question is about brushes. I ordered the ones you indicated on Blick. They wrote me back to say they can't send them to Canada! I wonder if this is a good replacement brush that would work in stead? I know nothing about brushes, and of course it's an investment I'm willing to make but I want to pick the right, and best ones from the start! Yes, that series can work but buy the flats , not the filberts.
