Can you share your best habits from your art practice that helped you get to where you are today?
Meadow Gist
BABY STEPS. A little every day is better than an all or nothing approach. Being in love with the act of creating art instead of the final product. If I focus only on outcome, I tend to be disappointed. If I am aware of improvements in the process, then I connect more positively to the painting. Try to be balanced, it is a cliche, but very important. If you don't take time for exercise and relaxation, it is hard to give 110% to artwork.

Being able to repeat apparently mundane exercises over and over. I love the saying "Don't do it until you get it right, do it until you can't get it wrong"

I made it partway through Drawabox and it really improved my drawing skills. Now that I’ve moved onto figure drawing and portrait courses here on Proko, I can really see how I’ve improved and my drawings have structure even though I still consider myself a beginner. I did have some issues. I feel like it’s not great for absolute beginners because you have to do all drawings in pen. If you need to be able to walk before you run, I think you need to be at a light jog before doing Drawabox. It also annoyed me that he didn’t use pen for his demos and criticized people for drawing digitally. I understand it from a technical POV but it still felt like “do what I say, not I do.”

Hello guys,  I finished the Figure Drawing course and don't know which one to choose next. Your opinions, please - what is better to learn first - Anatomy or Portrait?
Pencil Pusher
I just finished the figure drawing course and have moved onto the portrait course. I think the face is the most important part of a person’s anatomy so it makes sense to me to start there.

You could try a smoother paper or a blending stump. I haven’t had a ton of luck with a blending stump yet but I know others swear by them,
@pollypopcorn
Thanks for your comment. I've tried blending stumps for the first time just recently, and I'll have to continue using it and see if I like the effect.
