Attempted after having done the pear and watching the demo, but before watching the demo for the portrait. I'm pretty happy with the overall value separation, but I think the whole thing might be a little wide. The eyes were also difficult for me to get the shape and positioning right and I don't think I quite got there. I would love some additional critique if you see something else.

Hello everyone :) this is my assignment. First one I drew before watching the demo. The second I drew after the demo. Still needs work 😊
That's some real improvement! I think the biggest point for improvement is the cast shadow. I believe the cast shadow should be darker the closer it is to the form and get brighter and fuzzier the further the shadow is from the actual object. So the part of the cast shadow directly under the pear should be your darkest shade and the edges should be your lighter shade. Here you have it reversed. Great job though and some promising improvement!

Done without seeing the demo. I think I could have used longer lines for the contour to further simplify the shapes, and I should have thought more about what parts of the pear would be what shades beforehand. As it stands I think I was a little inconsistent as to what parts of the light side were darker than others. I also could have been more consistent with the darkest shadows as well. Finally, I think I could have made all of the tones a little darker overall.
