Hi @stan, just want to say thank you for illuminating so many basic concepts that have a surprising impact on my drawing. I learn so much from your demos! Asking us to be mindful of symmetry/asymmetry and the notions of "pushing" and "supporting" a gesture have been transformative for me. I can already feel that I am much more thoughtful in my line and shape choices. Also, I pushed myself to draw these with my whole arm, which I never thought I could do, but it is liberating. Thanks again for being such a great teacher!
@drawingdodo
I have the exact same feeling, this really is a fantastic course, and great work on the shapes! I love the chubby boi on the top right corner of the first image, that reference always cracks me up

After W. W. Denslow from the wizard of oz illustrations. I think his drawings are so fun and whimsical. Proportions are a bit off I can see but hopefully I’m on the right track with the line weights.
@ginbin3000
These are great! Nice translation from ink to pencil as well. I was studying W.W. Denslow for this assignment and found his work provides excellent examples of how to combine all three types of line weight, with emphasis on "order of importance" and "depth + form". What pencils did you use to achieve that almost ink-like taper on the lion's mane?

I have a question on the assignment. I'm I suppose to go more in the direction of Gestural drawing? I feel like this is the aim for this assignment. Don't worry about details get the energy. That's what I'm getting, correct? I just see a lot of people going into details.
@ginbin3000
Yeah girl, the assignment is simple, loose lines, as above in the video. Hardly anyone here is doing the actual assignment, hah.
@ginbin3000
Simplifying is challenging! This assignment forced me to think more deeply about distinguishing values with restraint, so thank you for that. P.S. Oops I picked a sketchbook that was too small and cut off the shadow, my bad.
