Hello there, thank you for looking at my work. These are 10 out of 13 pages I have done after watching the "Step by Step" gesture video. I do feel like I have improved significantly in my 30 second drawings, and I had quite a bit of struggle with my 2 minute drawings. In fact, because I have forgot to follow the instruction of watching the material multiple times, I have fell into the many pitfalls mentioned - I under-utilize my time (I often have 20-40 seconds left at the end of my 2 minute drawings), I overfocus on the contour and forget to check the primary gesture line, as well as attempting to copy the exact gesture of the reference. I am still figuring out how to make the pose as clear as possible, as well as which gestural elements I should prioritize over others. The final 3 images are pretty identical to the ones here, similar mistakes have been made (as far as I can see) Any critique, suggestions and/or advice would be extremely welcome. In the meanwhile, I'll continue practicing more mindfully and remember to rewatch the study material again whenever I feel lost.

I feel like I'm struggling to see the motion when it comes to looking at poses. All of the sketches below are from the 'Quicksketch Assignment Examples- 2 Minuet Poses.' I want to improve, but I don't know where to being in building a stronger foundation.

Hi Shane, I'm a complete newbie here but I think I have some helpful feedback. First, in all these gesture drawings you seem to separate the neck. I think that is a valid approach for general drawing, but in terms of gesture it forces you to break off the "main" gesture line, or the longest axis. For example in the drawing right under the "CSI" writing, the neck ends up being "correct" in terms of anatomy, the actual line that is there, but *harshly* breaks the gesture. Try drawing some gesture by including the neck within the longest axis, as a single line (unless the neck on the reference actually breaks gesture) The second thing I see is under-exaggeration, you really nail the gesture of subtle poses, where it is the subtle gestural lines that matter. On the more extreme looking poses, you seem to apply the same method/mindset that you apply to subtle poses, and you end up losing a lot of the energy from the said pose. Hope that is of any help, and if anyone with more experience could confirm or deny these conclusions would be welcome to do so

Hi there, thank you for taking time to look at my work. I am in the very beginnings of learning, came here from Drawabox. First time doing gesture drawing properly, I feel like I am just starting to feel the purpose of the exercise. If anyone, new or experienced would like to critique this, I would appreciate that. I also have two questions: a) I did the exercise with a ballpoint pen, would I benefit the most from the course (currently going through the free version) by using a pencil, or does the medium not matter here? Any added explanation would be lovely. b) I'll move on to the second video, but if there are any tips on improving the *clarity* of the gesture, that would be appreciated, since sometimes it's hard to tell in the gesture lines which parts are front, closer, farther, etc. Thank you so much.
