found that passion to draw again after those hiatuses. Looking back at old gesture drawings and seeing how much more fluid your current ones are is always a satisfying feeling. Actually makes you realize how much time you wasted drawing the same thing without critically thinking about it. Still have a bit of a scratching problem. Tips/pointers appreciated.

I think these look great. The only thing I would say is that for such quick drawings you can focus more of the lines and movements rather than the structure. Some of these might look a little stiff so you can save yourself some time by focusing on the movement and then push/exaggerate the poses more.

Got back to drawing after long hiatus, hopefully I can stay consistent. Never really did simplifications like these so they were pretty tough, definitely feel like I'm learning something from this though. If someone with experience in simplification could show me how'd they'd simplify the pictures, I would appreciate it a lot, especially with the cat.

Hi @concuu, I think you have a nice start here! Personally, I would have a lot of trouble with the cat too because the photo is extremely foreshortened and blurry. You can't really describe the form here unless you pull up some additional and/or better reference photos. For some general advice, practice those gestures and proportions! You can get pretty far with just those 2 elements. But, if you want to make your drawings 3-dimensional then, make sure you draw THROUGH the form. Draw the other side even if you can't see it, practice those boxes and cylinders so that way you can build up spatial awareness. (The reference photo is a straight-on side view, but I did my drawing as more of a 3/4 view to reflect what you did. Notice that you can't actually see that back leg in the original photo.) I hope I could help, cheers!

Had a 1-2 week stint where I wasn't practicing my drawings, and so I feel kinda iffy on these. Tips / pointers appreciated. On a separate note, I've had the figure drawing course for roughly 4-5 weeks now, would this be a good time to start working on the bean? I'd do gesture practices concurrently with the new lessons.

I believe Stan said that we should move on at 2 weeks max each stage. Since we’re never going to stop drawing gesture the rest of your life anyway. I sometimes move one when i get burnt out in one section

Some more gesture practice after watching the step by step video. Still have the habit of defaulting to scratchy lines, but I think its a lot better than my previous post. Any tips / pointers would be appreciated.

love these! Im feeling the movement of your models! Im just starting up now so not sure even how to critique - but id guess the ones at the bottom are more recent they seem looser and have lovely movement.

Nice work :). My main critique for them would be to draw less lines and instead look for the ones most important to make the gesture communicate and focusing on those lines.

Hi concuu! Try to make the movement of arms and legs more fluid, even when they are lying down.
@concuu
Any tips/pointers would be greatly appreciated. Also if you notice any bad habits.

I really like the variety of poses you have here! It seems as though you focus too much on the contour at times, instead of the gesture. Sometimes putting a bump for the forearm or calves doesn’t add much to the gesture and can actually stiffen it (for example the first image, the second drawing to the left, the shape of the forearm doesn’t follow the flow of the rest of the drawing). Try using fewer lines and possibly setting a limit or an estimation for how many you’ll allow yourself to use. This could also help reduce the scratchy lines. In most of your drawings it looks very much like you understand the pose, try trusting yourself and your lines more (I realize that this takes time, but you’re on the right path:) ). Hope this will be of some help!
