Hi guys, I did this very Rough quick sketch to start my understanding of twisting figures from imagination. I started with a very simple pose. So many things don’t work, I can’t understand the perspective really well, how 5he shapes interact with each other, how they are viewed under the skin etc. i can’t understand the joints of the figure (maybe because she is dressed up) but I don’t like anything. Could you please help me understand what can I do to modify my approach to drawing from imagination and understanding form from imagination. I don’t like my drawing at all
Steve Lenze
Hey annyyyyy, Nice job on these drawings, especially the second one, it has great dimension. The thing I noticed the most is that you need to use anatomical details to help sell your perspective. The way a muscle wraps around the form, or creases in the skin can help show perspective. Also, in the first drawing, the figure is lacking any sense of structure. Try looking for places to put corners and other details to show the underlying structure of the body or form. Make sure in a symmetrical pose like this one, that both sides of the body are close to being the same. I did a quick sketch and diagram to show you some of the things I am talking about, I hope it helps :)

FINALLY!!!! This is what I've been looking for!! 😭 Can I ask another question? I have some anatomy books for example the "Morpho" book series and a book called "Man's structure manual of artistic anatomy" but I have a HUUUUGE problem with books: I don't know how to use them!! I feel like that just copying the poses and the muscle doesn't help me at all, I can only draw by copying, but I want to learn how to draw also from imagination. My academy doesn't teach that, I feel that I need something else for my artistic journey, that will make me improve even more. How to use an anatomy book? Anyway your critiques always helped me so so much I'm so glad thank you🙏

That's what happens to me sometimes...I block myself. As an art student the best way to avoid that was to start with very simple sketches for a while, very very simple, and then if I feel like do a bigger project. Sometimes I've stopped drawing for months and that happened because I was too stressed

Hi everyone I am following chris legaspi free portrait drawing class, and I did this 5 minutes sketch to practice likeness, features placement, shapes and face gestures. I don’t like my drawing how it came out for several reasons , the first one is the perspective of the eyebrows which to get right I always need to erase, the second one is the nose and eye placement and also the mouth. I also think that the face is TOO large, and I ALWAYS make this mistake going on. I get the likeness right but with numerous and I really mean NUMEROUS times erasing. can you guys tell me how to fix these mistakes also for future drawings? Thank u so much proko community!

Hey annyyyyy, I like your quick sketch, it shows a pretty good understanding of gesture and proportion. One of the things I think you can work on is the perspective and 3 dimensional quality of your figures. I did a quick sketch to show you some of the things I think would make your drawings better, I hope it helps :)

Hi everyone, i am new to the community. I am a young artist of 19 years old who will start the art academy this November. I am still not an expert in drawing figures and anatomy, so i would like to get a small Critique to improve my quick sketching. Here is my figure drawing. It's not perfect but I've tried. Please if you have advices write them in the comments 💙 @Liandro
