Ready for edges? I know I need a lot more adjustment of the values but not sure how far to take it before the edges. When I get more painting experience would I incorporate edges as I am establishing value or would I still work according to these 'steps'? Thanks, Morgan!
Morgan Weistling
yes, incorporate edges now and use your mixtures to reapply the paint to blend.

Put the background in but figure it needs adjusting once I have more values in and things relate better to each other

I assume that once I begin with the light value and moving into half tones it would be ideal to paint wet into wet. What do you suggest I use if the paint dries in some areas or in the case I don't get back to it before it dries?

I used a combo of the average shadow and the darkest dark. Does this look ok? Thank you and Merry Christmas!!
Morgan Weistling
yes,. good shapes.
@andreat
Well this was a challenge but a good challenge. So glad I only have 4 colors to mix with. Now I know why I was overwhelmed with a full palette. Totally a much better approach to work with a limited palette. I am willing to remix if needed. Thanks SOOOO much for your help!

Here is my second attempt at the warm flesh tones. I think the first set is too warm and too dark in value.

I drew this from observation. Ok to spray with fixative? All the video lessons are very helpful. Looking forward to mixing and painting!
Morgan Weistling
YES. This is a good start. When you start in with the shadow like in my demo, really search now for the patterns that create the light shapes and keep up the squinting.

I did this assignment with some horizontals and verticals instead of a grid and did the head from observation. I have been drawing that way for a while now.
Morgan Weistling
excellent
@andreat
Is it ok to use liquitex gray gesso and skip the white gesso?
Morgan Weistling
yes, if you want more canvas texture then go ahead. Normally on portraits texture of canvas can be difficult to fight.
