A quick 5-10 minute sketch. It helps me study the proportions and make quick disingenuous for the shadows

Day 173
It was still dark when I awoke, and, looking up, i could still see the stars. I wanted to sleep longer, but the wind started picking up, and, i felt that i need to continue my journey to the North. After a half day walk i came across a small lake where i refreshed myself and decided to take a break. Shortly after i noticed something shimmering in the tall grass. I tried to find out what it was but every time i came closer it seemed like it was running away from me. That ignited my curiosity and without noticing i started following it into the woods. A discomfort was felt in the air and the sun was already setting down. I knew i had to admit my defeat before the night sets, but when i thought of giving up i finally got a clear view on that mysterious shimmering light. Sitting on the top of a tall rock formation, there was a scarabai reflecting the evening lights. Without hesitation, quickly, i climbed the rock to catch this rare find, just to get myself surprised again. I didn’t catch this bloody bug because it seemed it was just leading me the whole time, knowing something i didn’t know. I couldn’t trust my eyes.
Below me, on the other side of the rock, lied, what for me seemed, a dead body of a human dressed as a soldier. From the journals i read before i could identify that it was a skeleton of a Roman solider, which made even less sense for me. I never heard of romans traveling this far from the Mediterranean Sea, not to mention soldiers. In his hand was a golden scarabai what seemed to be the last thing this poor soul ever saw.
Maybe it’s a good omen this golden bug with me on the journey. Till i decide I’ll spend my night next to the silent soldier.
