Revisited the forearms today. I'm trying to work on understanding pronated arms. What I'm most unsure of in this tracing is the placement of the flexor carpi radialis. I'm wondering if it should be more to the left? It feels a little like I forced the brachioradials to the right in order for the two muscles to touch. What are your thoughts?

Hi @Jesper Axelsson , that looks correct. Below is a snapshot from an anatomy book with the same gesture for your reference.

Hi @Jesper Axelsson , maybe you can check into Watts Atelier's courses? I am actually taking his online one for drawing now and feel like I have filled up a lot of gaps for fundamentals. Although I haven't taken his painting courses, based on my experience with drawing, his course is very structured and detailed. It may be worth checking out. Hope that helps!

I'll check it out! Thanks!

First of all, this is well done. Very well done. The structure and anatomy stand out immediately and the values are well presented. I think that the only way to take this further would be to complete the lower torso. The lumbar is implied, but it feels as though the upper body doesn't have any support.

Thank you @Jeremiah Rybij , I will work more on improving the design!

Hi im new and nowhere your level haha, I would add that the lower back(near the abdominal) seem a bit too thin for the upper side

Thank you @eli zur !!

I like this! Such a strong pose. I think what could help would be focusing on the center of gravity.

Hey Nicole, thats a really good drawing. I couldnt do that at all. The only thing that I think you should add is the same kind of beautifull shading to the face. You have drawn out the facial features but not shaded it so that area seems unfinnished. The only anatomy part that looks off is his sixpack. Particularily the three packs further away may be too bulgy. You might wanna look at the Abdominal Muscles in general. I think the Pectoral in the front doesnt connect properly to them! Besides that I think your drawing is amazing!

Hi @Jeremias Fritsch thank you so much for your observations and suggestions!

Hi! I'm wondering if anyone could help me figure out if the bean I drew for this pose is accurate. :)

That looks correct to me!

Hi ana_101, these are really nice robo beans. The only thing I can think of is beware of the length difference between the torso part and the pelvis part. The torso part should be longer than the pelvis part. In some of the beans where no foreshortening occurred, the length of torso was drawn the same length as pelvis. Hope that helps!

Thank you a lot nicole :-)

Hello everyone, Below is my torso drawing based on a photo from Watts on Bridgman book. I would love to get your opinion/critique on my design and where to improve. Thank you!

Hello everyone, Below are my latest drawings. I have been focusing on improving the likeness of portraits and shading techniques. I feel like I have made some progress since last posts but definitely still lots to learn. Would love to get your opinions on where I can improve. Many thanks :)

Hi @Nicole Lee, I think these are really nice! I really like the textures in the forehead on the first one and the line quality in the second one is very elegant. I'll do my best to help you further: You've have been working a lot on shading, and I can tell that you're improving. I think it's about time you take a shading course. Your drawings are very good, and you understand much about shading. However I feel like there are som holes in your foundation, that need to be filled in order to push you to the next level. The area I see need most improvement is value control. Stan talks some about values, but it wasn't thorough enough for me. Also Stan's shading is quite stylized, with a strong core shadow and strong reflected light. His main intention doesn't seem to be copying what you see exactly. For me learning to capture the value relationships I see was a great way to develop my value control. And now that I have that I can start to stylize them and do that with confidence. I think the control has to come first The course I took on shading was Dorian Iten's Shading Course https://www.theshadingcourse.com Great explanations, great assignments and affordable. I'm sure that there're plenty of good resources online about shading, but Dorian's course is the one I would recommend I hope this was helpful :) Keep up the good work!
