Portrait Painting in Oil using Sight Size Method
Cornelia Hernes is a renowned classical realist painter and teacher from the Florence Academy of Art. In this Masterpiece Demo you get to watch as a professional artist creates a masterpiece from scratch. Cornelia will explain her palette, give tips for mixing color, understanding paint characteristics, types of brushes, solvents, and staining a fresh canvas. She works from a live model and uses natural light. She starts with a color study to explore options and determine the composition. Cornelia will give a brief lesson on the Sight-Size Method, show how to properly use this classical technique, and introduce some useful tools to help with the method. She builds up the painting over 6 days and finishes with realistic rendering. This demo and lesson is a must-have for those wanting to see the entire process and workflow of a professional painter.
We're so excited to release this new demo series. There are 2 versions. A shortened feature that will include Cornelia’s complete process from photoshoot to finished painting. We’ve cut down hours of footage into a shorter cut to deliver as much information as possible in the quickest amount of time. The other is a 18+ hours real-time version. The only things we cut out were breaks and long pauses so that you can learn from the raw experience. If there’s any portion of the painting that you want to see in detail as it really happened, it’s in this cut. You’ll have the full experience and appreciation of the time and effort that goes into a painting of this scale. If there’s a part of the painting that you want to see uncut, such as the eyes or hair, you can watch every mixture and brush stroke that Cornelia laid in the making of her masterpiece.
