Stage 3: In this video we are continuing the painting session we started in the last video. This means finishing the first full pass in color. Really, the painting can start to look quite finished at this moment, but it’s important to remember that we still want to keep it a simple as possible.
Simple doesn’t mean easy or basic. You could call the majority of John Singer Sargent’s work simple, in fact. What we really mean is that the painting should look quite natural and real.
It is also a moment to take in the full context of color that we have created. Are the flesh tones warm enough? Is there a sufficient contrast in color between warm and cool colors? And, from a rendering perspective, how are our half tone edges doing? This is a great time to make sure that our light shape and half tone edges are soft and unified enough.
