My first portrait sculpture
5yr
Olen Boynton
This year I signed up to participate in the Canadian carving festival. It was long overdue. I had been thinking about it for years and I finally took the plunge. Knowing that I would eventually do this I watched many of Stan's videos to help me better understand the construction of the head. Needless to say I also watched Zoe's demo. It was very helpful. I am very happy with the results of my hard work. I made mistakes and I wish I took better pictures of the process and the final result. A rookie mistake. But ultimately It was a great experience that taught me a lot.
I totally envy you guys that can carve...how you can work an image out of a solid object is mystifying to me!!!
That's a lovely piece, she looks so peaceful. I'm amazed with the skill behind carving, the no going back aspect strikes me as the hardest medium possible. Congrats on taking the plunge, look forward to seeing more of your work on here :)
Looks great! I know nothing about sculpting. Cant give you any feedback, but keep it up, it’s much nicer than I could do.
Whoa that's really good O_O You obviously understand the form of the head really well.
Did you have to look at it from any particular view to tell if it was looking right (e.g. like keep checking front view and side view) or could you look at it from pretty much angle angle and see if you were on the right track?
How exciting! This is your first portrait sculpture?! That’s amazing. Great work - your efforts really paid off. Congratulations!!!
