I've developed a love for mangas lately and been asking alot of my friends and teachers what mangas they recommend. Now that i just joined Proko i might aswell ask here too. Would anyone like to share who/what are their favorite mangakas and/or mangas? if you have any share it here and as importantly share what makes you love them so much? Is it the story, the artstyle, the inking, paneling, or anything?

The Ghost in the Shell manga is very different from the anime and has a comedic tone while also being as comprehensive about the way things work as Gene Roddenberry was with Star Trek. I'm still exploring manga myself but it's one of my faves to study. Dororo is also a GREAT addition to any lexicon as it's one of Osama Tezuka's best works and is a bridge point for cinematic storytelling through manga. It is VERY compelling to my tastes. It will largely depend on your preferences but these are two of my favorites!

I usually tend to like almost any genre except romance (but even that have exceptions too). I'll read both of them since I heard they are very very good. especially ghost in the shell. Thanks for the recommendations

Depending on age I would recommend Berserk by Kentaro Miura, Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo as adult-oriented. Also I heard great comments about Vagabond. For a bit younger audiences Eyeshield 21 by Yusuke Murata.

Check out vagabond.

Jojo`s Bizarre Adventure, Berserk. These are the best when it comes to art. Berserk is extremely brutal though, do not recommend it to young people. If you are under 18 stay away from Berserk, it will mess with your mind.

I've read Berserk when I was... around 15 maybe. I'm 20 now so that was like what 5 chapters ago lol? it was when it's very popular so might aswell read it. at that age i already have a high tolerance for blood and gore so it doesn't bother me as much as it should have. when I was a (younger) kid I was so scared of blood that when i started to open myself to abit of horror I got very into it. For the artwork man Kentaro is like the Frank frazetta of manga. and as for Jojo the only experience I have with it is from the memes and their weird (?) over the top character designs. but I heard that the author is actualy a very talented mangaka so I should start reading em. Thanks for the recommendations.

Well, it depends on the genre you like. In terms of drawings, the best mangaka, in my opinion, are Jirō Taniguchi, Takehiko Inoue, Hiroaki Samura (Blade of The Immortal is a masterpiece, as an illustrator I find him a bit disturbing), Naoki Urasawa (who like Taniguchi is also a spectacular writer), Kaoru Mori (if you like the historical genre), Kiyohiko Azuma with his very funny Yotsuba &! There is also Kentaro Miura who is an excellent drawer, it's a pity that his Berserk over the years has become much worse in terms of story (and I say this as a fan).

that's alot of mangakas that i didn't know. Takehiko Inoue is on my radar for quite awhile now, his hit manga slam dunk is already on my list. Naoki Urasawa is a master mangaka I've read Billy bat and 20th century boys and they're top level stories. for Kentaro Miura i can see your point. I think he doesn't really know where he wants to take the story too. but atleast his the drawings kept getting better overtime unlike Vagabond :,). As for the others, they're pretty new to me so thanks for bringing them up to my attention. I should check them out soon.

P.S Don't be afraid to nerd out. share those sweet sweet knowledge and ideas XD

I should probably put my own recommendation too. My favorite is probably Naoki Urasawa's - 20th Century Boys (and the continuation 21st Century Boys). I love mangas where the characters are not handsome or beautiful per se lol cause that means the author really had to sell his story and the characters. Which is something Naoki Urasawa did wonderfully with this manga. I've grown to love every one of the characters especially Kenji's friends. They all developed as a person. Urasawa rarely left a character behind, if he put them in the story than they will have a role in the overall plot and it just amazes me how he does it. There's also a point where he completely switch the main character. I'm not gonna spoil, but my point is particularly how he approach this shows that this author got balls. I also love how Urasawa draws. The characters' line art are pretty simple (?) and doesn't have that many details on it but it's so spot on at the same time. I think it's because he has a mastery understanding of the face structure (atleast for his art style) that he knows what details he should put and what he doesn't need to. When i first read it i thought that his drawings were so weird and different than what i'm used to but the more i read it the more i appreciate it. now i just adore his art style. I recommend you guys to give it a read if you have the time. This manga made me smile, made me cry, gave me a whole new perspective on story telling. it's one of the best piece of story telling I have every had the pleasure to read and study. Thanks for reading this and have a nice day.

My favorites are Akira Toriyama (Dragonball) and Yusuke Muruta (One Punch Man). I look at these two for inspiration for action and movement specifically. I want to incorporate that energy into my work.
Nathan Satrio
ohh man when it comes to action manga, those two are the top tiers. You should check out Kohei Horikoshi (Boku no Hero) too if you want energetic gesture. Thanks for the recommendations.

thanks for the reccomendations i'll put them on the list. especially first and third hehehehe. i heard nothing but good things from those. And also watch the anime too cause they're known to be classics.

Berserk is great in terms of art style and story. As you progress in reading through the manga, it is simply amazing to see how much the mangaka evolves his art style and it is ongoing. Fullmetal Alchemist is one of my favorites. Hiromu Arakawa did an amazing job in terms of the story and the development of her characters. Hunter x Hunter and Demon Slayer are another great ones as well.
Nathan Satrio
My teacher recommended me FMA too, she said even if i already watched brotherhood i should try out the manga. Berserk's author (Kentaro Miura) is like the Frank Frazetta of manga and how his drawings and story evolves I also took noticed and it's just amazing to see. Demon slayer I already read it multiple times and it is pretty great. HunterXhunter I cried in the anime (you can guess at which part :')). for now i guess i'll start with FMA while waiting for HunterxHunter and Berserk to continue. if it ever will.... thanks for the recommendations XD

It depends on your tastes, if you want something darker go for chainsaw man, hunter x hunter or berserk (really dark but if you can stomach the sick parts is one of the best manga of all time) more light hearted go for my hero academia(gets darker later on) or one punch man. There are a bunch more like good night punpun, vagabound, monster... and i would also recommend the stuff written by Carnby KIM. He is a manhwa(korean manga) writter, and although manhwa are usually really bad, his work is consistently great even by manga standards.
Nathan Satrio
Fortunately i like almost any genre. fun ones or dark ones aslong as the story or the drawing is good. exceptions maybe the girly romance ones. But since i'm just starting out my manga jorney i'll pretty much try anything. I like your recomendations and have read most of em, except Monster and Carnby KIM's. I usually don't like manhwa cause i don't like their scrolling type panels. but since you, my teacher, and one of my close friend reccomended it, i shall set aside my prejudice towards manhwa and read it again lol. But I got my eye on Monster cause it's Naoki Urasawa's work which mean it's a must >:D. thanks for the recommendationss. if you find anything good in the future remember to post it here again (ofcourse, if you don't mind). also just for fun, how long was your depression after reading Oyasumi Punpun hahaha? I think I was down for like a week after reading that. But that's actually the manga that sparked my love and appreciation for manga so thanks for that Asano Inio you genius bastard.
