5 Value Studies/Portrait
1yr
MATTHEW
So I have drawn as a hobby for a little while, which is why I am doing the portrait studies as well, but I lack practice in values. I had fun doing the thumbnails with markers so after the pear and before the portrait I did a lot of 5 value studies (dark-dark, light-dark, dark-mid, light-mid, and highlight).
I attempted the portrait three times, once without watching the video and twice after.
Very nice. I think using markers is a good way to study values. It forces you into simplifying your values and asking the right questions.
Thank you! Yes, the markers have been a great tool for quicker studies as well, graphite shading is a good skill, but it isn't great for knocking out a lot of drawings back-to-back, at least for me (also makes turning the pages a pain unless you want to spray fixative on each page).
