What sort of pencil is that? What type of paper are you using? Are they important? Thanks.

The pencil is "Conte 1710 B". Watt's Atelier instructors and students love it cause you can sharpen it to a long taper (for mark variety). It also give you a wide range of values in one pencil. The paper is most likely cheap, smooth newsprint. Smooth being important. I personally use packing paper that I cut to 18x24 myself. Just have to make sure it's smooth.
