Here is my 5th or 6th attempt at the simplified portrait. Lost count lol. This was a very difficult task. It’s amazing how easy it is to mess up proportions and the general feel of a portrait using straight lines, sharp edges, and 5 values.

Really well done - this looks great

This is my second attempt at the pear (I posted the first attempt earlier today). I think it’s a big improvement from my first attempt. I wasn’t as nervous and tried not to over think it. I think I got the cast shadow angle better and the shading all around better. On my first try I didn’t put much thought into the stem and I think this one looks more 3 dimensional. I also switched up my pencils this time, in the first I used my Staedtler’s (2H, HB, 2B, 4B) and for this one I used my normal pencils from Windsor & Newton (HB, 2B, 6B and I used my Staedtler 2H) I’m happy with this and will try the level 2 assignment tomorrow!

I really like this. It feels true to Stan's instructions. Good effort!

Did 4 pear sketches, the two on top are from the reference in comments and the others from the video. Attempt #4 was done while referring to his sketch in the video. I liked how my sketches started but not so much after adding the lighter tones.

I am just starting too and your beginning is inspiring me!
