Hi Morgan, I have made corrections as I painted. Let me know if heading in the right direction. I did want to mention that I enjoy your videos and the conversational aspect(even if only one way). I do have a question about value. Can you comment what the actual value is of the average light and average dark in terms of the value scale number, assuming 9 is darkest,

My first time using the simplified grid. Definitely harder than the full grid.

Yes, it does get harder and maybe you should use a little bit more grid until you’re more sure of yourself. There are definitely some issues with your proportions because you were not using more grid. If you haven’t gone forward with painting yet, I would suggest doing more grid and get a drawing that’s closer to the accuracy of your photo reference.

Hello Morgan, here is the first portrait in stages. Great instruction and yes we are following along.
My biggest challenge, understanding the dark values, ie how dark on value scale and colour temp of skin tones.
My biggest learning point, dark and light half tones.
I would appreciate it if you could give me one or two points of constructive feedback, thanks

Hi Morgan, just a question re values, a little confused on the values in shadow. They seem so dark on the screen when you mix them. Can you comment on the actual value of the reflective light, the average dark and the dark accent for the first portrait. They look darker than I would expect for skin in shadow.
