Sacrifices for art

Has anyone ever had to make some sacrifices for their art? I have several projects going on (writing a novel, drawing illustrations for novel, learning about art for novel illustrations, inktober, and 3 different illustration contests) for the next few weeks. I was drawing some tree concepts for one of the contests pieces when I realized that I just can't finish all 3 pieces for this same contest. I decided to forfeit this contest but use the same pieces for one of the other 2 contests. I guess what I'm asking is if it's normal to feel guilty about giving up something like this? I've had to do it several times for writing but not for art yet. The benefit I get is a whole extra week (not including this week) to work on the 3 pieces for the next contest but still feels weird to me because the one I'm giving up is something I only have one shot for and might not be able to do next year.

Thing is it's not wasted time because you're learning something! And you can always pick these projects back up at a later date and finish them. I think deadlines are great if you need pressure to being a piece to finish, but sometimes our best work can't be created under that kind of strain.

I would suggest you prioritise one, its best to have a good finished product on time. Not the perfect product that is never produced.

I would listen to my gut and go with it. If you feel to leave one project then do it. And do not feel guilty :) just enjoy it
