I tried to capture the loose lines whilst trying to describe form. I feel like I should be focusing more on line weight, variety.

My lvl. 1 assignment. Any critique is appreciated.

I feel like I'm getting better at volume. The line quality is not where I want it to be and I often end up running out of time. But the gesture and flow in my figures is showing more. Any critique is appreciated.

Im having a hard time controlling the line weight when using the overhandgrip. Should I sharpen the charcoal often or is it better to focus on the angle of the pencil?

First set of 2mins. Still struggling with gesture through volume.
@lassek
I have been doing a bunch of 30sek drawings. I'm having a hard time pushing the gesture and my figures lose their gesture anytime I try to indicate that the form is moving towards or away from the viewer. Should I try to become somewhat good at 30sec before moving on to 2min or should I practice these two while moving forwards in the course? Thx 🙏.

Very fun assignment. It would be greatly appreciated if anyone has the time to check the lay-in, or have tips for free programs, as I don't own procreate or Photoshop. Thanks 🙏.

Gimp is a great free open-source alternative to photoshop.

Hi lassek! It's a bit difficult to overlay this image because of the quality of the original image, the lines are rather faint. But I do have some tips for free programs-- Krita, FireAlpaca, and Medibang Paint are all free software if you're using a computer, and I believe Photopea is an online photo editor similar to Photoshop as well. But from what I was able to gather, it seems pretty darn close to the original, the differences were that the photo had a larger chin/jaw area, the forehead protruded out a bit more, the iris closer to the camera was larger, and the brow bone closer to the camera was higher up.
